NurseIO is a staffing platform that connects RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other healthcare professionals with open per diem shifts at local healthcare facilities. Facilities post shifts they need covered - from one-off per diem jobs to short-term assignments - while qualified professionals browse and book shifts on their terms.

Opportunity

In per diem healthcare staffing, timely pay is critical to keeping nurses and other healthcare professionals engaged. However, healthcare facilities typically operate on industry-standard net terms (often 30-60 days). This mismatch creates a structural challenge: professionals expect fast payouts for completed shifts right from their app, but facilities expect more predictable invoice payments.

For NurseIO, this dynamic meant carrying the cash flow gap on their own balance sheet to ensure professionals got paid quickly - limiting their ability to scale the platform and onboard new facilities without liquidity constraints.

NurseIO partnered with OatFi to solve this working capital challenge with an embedded financing solution that powers Instant Pay. By bridging the gap between when facilities pay their invoices and when professionals expect wages, OatFi allows NurseIO to offer same-day payouts to healthcare professionals without disrupting facilities’ AP cycles.

Equally important, OatFi’s API-first design ensures NurseIO maintains full ownership of the user experience:

Solution

With OatFi, NurseIO built a seamless Instant Pay feature that enables healthcare professionals to clock in and out of shifts via the NurseIO app and get paid immediately after their work is complete.

Solution Design (Flow of Funds):

1. NurseIO passes OatFi data needed to underwrite, preapprove, and generate a credit limit for healthcare facilities. 
2. Facilities post shifts and healthcare professionals complete them.
3. After clocking out, NurseIO issues payouts instantly.
4. OatFi funds same-day ACH to NurseIO’s payout accounts.
5. NurseIO disburses payments to professionals.
6. Facilities pay invoices on standard terms.
7. OatFi reconciles repayments to invoices, applying payments FIFO to the outstanding balance.

NurseIO was able to quickly integrate with OatFi, allowing them to scale their Instant Pay product without managing any of the credit and capital markets efforts that come with managing an early pay credit solution. They retained full control of the customer experience as OatFi embedded directly into their existing payment workflows.
